mobijan63 site front page under 11. HEALTH ISSUES
Our intention is to highlight possible
health issues we may face as the result of our service in the RAN and to
provide links to various government departments and their website as well as
other welfare and service
organisations that can be of help.
Simply said - “everybody did sea time” so
you were exposed to many hazardous substances and situations. Everybody at
sometime came into contact with asbestos or highly carcinogenic products like Turco-solv
or Freon gas and so on through to beryllium dust. We were exposed to extremely
high noise levels and high and low frequency EMR. The list is endless and
health problems related to this exposure can affect us all.
You need to ask yourself 3 simple questions
1. Do you have a diagnosed disease?
2. Did your service time cause or aggravate
that disease?
3. Does this disability affect you now?
A negative answer to any of these may mean you don’t have a claim, but you
should get advice from either service or welfare sources such as an RSL welfare
officer before you proceed to make a claim.
4.
Knowing who to contact, and how to contact the relevant responsible Government bodies,
is of paramount importance in being able
mount an effective claim for treatment or compensation for any situation.
5..
Things like getting a
recognised/qualified advisor, like an RSL welfare officer to assist you
in completing paperwork is A MUST and that is even recommended by the Government
itself.
The following is a list of web sites to
either government departments or other interesting and informative web sites
that have large databases for you to follow with many links to related subjects
